Welcome New Governors
We are pleased to report that Charles-Antoine St-Jean (Partner, National Public Sector Leader, Ernst & Young, LLP) was appointed by the Board as ongoing Chair of CCAF at an organization meeting of the Board following the December 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The Board also welcomed new Board members Brian Bost (Partner, Risk Consulting) from KPMG and Jocelyne Therrien (Senior Principal, Parliamentary and International Relations) from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada. Brian succeeds former KPMG Partner Robert Wener (Chief Financial Officer, The Minto Group) who recently resigned from CCAF's Board. Jocelyne succeeds John Wiersema, former Interim Auditor General of Canada who also recently resigned from CCAF's Board. CCAF Members also re-elected Governors Philip Howell (CEO & Superintendent, Financial Services Commission of Ontario) and Jacques Lapointe (Auditor General of Nova Scotia).
Recognition of John Wiersema's Contribution to CCAF
At a special dinner held on Sunday, December 4th, CCAF Chair Charles-Antoine St-Jean, Governors, and Management paid tribute to John's long career of public service and acknowledged the strong support he has provided to the Foundation in his role as Governor for the past three years, including most recently as Chair of the Governance Committee. John noted that he "believes strongly in CCAF's new strategic plan" and "looks forward with interest to the future of this important organization".
New Board Oversight Committees Formed
Along with renewing the terms of reference for two existing committees, (Audit & Finance and Governance), the Board also established two new committees – the National Capacity Building Committee (NCBC) and the International Capacity Building Committee (ICBC).
These new committees will provide oversight to Management's implementation of CCAF's strategic goals for Performance Audit and Oversight (NCBC) and International Program (ICBC).Membership for the Board's committees can be viewed on CCAF's website.
CCAF Welcomes New Federal Auditor General
Effective November 28th, Michael Ferguson was appointed Auditor General of Canada, succeeding Interim Auditor General John Wiersema who has retired from public service.
Mr. Ferguson previously served as Auditor General of New Brunswick from 2005 to 2010. Prior to serving as Auditor General, Mr. Ferguson worked at New Brunswick's Office of the Comptroller, beginning his career as an auditor in 1985, and eventually serving as Comptroller from 2000 to 2005. Just prior to his appointment as Auditor General of Canada, Mr. Ferguson was Deputy Minister of Finance of New Brunswick.
Mr. Ferguson has also been an active supporter of CCAF, working with the Foundation's international program through the Office of the Auditor General of New Brunswick to build performance audit capacity in the National Audit Office of Tanzania.
New Interim Auditor General of Québec Announced
CCAF is pleased to announce the appointment of Interim Auditor General of Quebec Michel Samson. Mr Samson was recently appointed to succeed departing Auditor General Renaud Lachance, who has been appointed as a member to serve on the Quebec Charbonneau Commission.
CCAF thanks Renaud Lachance for his significant support to CCAF during his tenure as Quebec's Auditor General and and looks forward to working with Mr. Samson and his organization in future. Mr. Samson brings a wealth of experience and background to the position, having previously served as Assistant Auditor General of Quebec – the announcement and Mr. Samson's bio can be accessed on the OAG Quebec website.
GIACC Presents The 1st Annual "W. David Moynagh" Commemoration Award at Annual Forum
CCAF is pleased to report that, Richard Kennedy (Chief Internal Auditor & Assistant Deputy Minister, Ministry of Finance, Government of Ontario), was presented with the 1st Annual W. David Moynagh Commemoration Award at the business dinner held on September 19, during the Government Internal Auditors Council of Canada (GIACC) three-day Annual Forum held in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on Monday, September 19th.
Along with GIACC members, a number of other special NWT guests were present to see Mr. Kennedy receive the award on behalf of the Ontario Internal Audit Division, including The Honourable George Tuccaro (Commissioner of the Northwest Territories). The Award was presented to Mr. Kennedy by Council Secretary and CCAF Director of Operations & Chief Financial Officer, Nicole Wieczorek.
The Award is presented annually in memory of David Moynagh to a GIACC member who has made a significant contribution to the Canadian public sector internal audit community, through GIACC, in promoting dialogue, collaboration and discussions geared to strengthening internal audit capacity in the public sector. The recipient of this award embodies the spirit of knowledge sharing, collegiality and generosity that was so much a part of David Moynagh's contribution to the community.
David Moynagh (1949-2011) was former Executive Director, Policy and Professional Practices, Internal Audit Sector for the Office of the Comptroller General, Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat and prior to that, longtime CCAF Director of Research. David was instrumental in the establishment and development of GIACC.
