Reg Alcock Passes Away Unexpectedly
Wednesday, 19 October 2011 01:00

Former Canadian federal MP and cabinet minister Reg Alcock passed away unexpectedly today in Manitoba, a province where he held seats both as a provincial MLA and a federal MP from 1988 to 2006.

Mr. Alcock, who was first elected to the federal House of Commons in 1993, served as President of the Treasury Board from 2003-2006. One of his notable initiatives while serving as Treasury Board president was the establishment of the position of Chief Audit Executive for departments and agencies in the federal government.

Following his departure from federal politics, Mr. Alcock engaged in a number of activities linked to public sector administration and governance. He was appointed to the faculty of the University of Manitoba in 2007, serving as executive in residence at the Asper School of Business.

CCAF was fortunate to have worked with Reg over the past years in many areas of its' research and capacity development work, most recently in September this year to help facilitate a discussion held with Chief Internal Auditors from across Canada at the Government Internal Audit Council of Canada (GIACC) forum held in Yellowknife.

"I had the good fortune of working for Mr. Alcock during my time at the Office of the Comptroller General" noted CCAF's Interim Chair Charles-Antoine St-Jean. "This is a sad day and a great loss for Canada."

His contribution to public service in Canada has been substantial and he will be missed.
