|CCAF Releases a Profile of Practices of Legislative Oversight Committees in the United Kingdom and Scotland|
|Wednesday, 21 September 2011 01:00|
Building on CCAF's Attributes of an Effective Public Accounts Committee
The publication, titled Sharing International Practices – A Profile of Legislative Oversight Committees in the United Kingdom and Scotland, looks at legislative oversight practices in these two jurisdictions and profiles them against CCAF's Attributes of an Effective Public Accounts Committee.
CCAF's Attributes of an Effective Public Accounts Committee, published in 2010, serves as an orientation and reference guide to help public accounts committees and their members understand the key characteristics of oversight. Sharing International Practices is intended to complement this guide by profiling international PAC practices. CCAF hopes to make this the first in a series of publications profiling international legislative oversight practices.
The practices cited in the profile were identified through extensive interviews conducted with both elected and non-elected officials in the UK and Scotland in May 2011, as well as through additional research conducted by the CCAF research team.
Profile distributed at CCPAC / CCOLA Annual Conference
The profile was distributed at the annual conferences of the Canadian Council of Public Accounts Committees and the Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors held in Halifax, Nova Scotia August 28-30, 2011.
The findings of the profile complemented the keynote speech given by the Right Honorable Margaret Hodge MP, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee in the United Kingdom.
