James Ralston has been appointed Comptroller General of Canada by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, effective October 3, 2009.
Mr. Ralston has been Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Commissioner of the Canada Revenue Agency since 2003. He joined the Agency in 1999. Previously, he worked for 15 years at the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) of Canada, as a Director and then a Principal.
Mr. Ralston began his career in the Office of the Provincial Auditor in Alberta. He then joined the chartered accounting firm Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, where he worked for 8 years in Edmonton and Ottawa before joining the OAG.
He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta, an MA from the University of Ottawa and a Ph.D. from Carleton University. He is a member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and Ontario.
Mr. Ralston takes over from Rod Monette, who retires from the position of Comptroller General of Canada effective October 2, 2009. The Prime Minister thanked Mr. Monette, who was a member of CCAF’s Board of Governors, for “his remarkable contribution in serving Canadians.”
CCAF extends our best wishes to both Mr. Ralston and Mr. Monette
